Advanced Search Capabilities

Below is a list of search terms and operators with examples you can use in the Kantiv search feature. You can combine these search terms using operators to refine or broaden your search results. Effective use of these capabilities can significantly enhance your productivity and ensure you find the most relevant information quickly.

Exact Match

To perform an exact match search, enclose your search term in double quotation marks ("")

Example: To find all documents containing the exact phrase apple pie, use the following query:

"apple pie"

AND, OR, NOT Operators

These operators allow you to combine keywords effectively. Note that these operators must be capitalized.

The default operator is OR, meaning the following two queries yield the same results:

apple pie

apple OR pie

Example: To search for documents related to dogs but exclude any mentioning cats while also including documents mentioning both dogs and breeds or puppies, you can use the following query:

dogs AND breeds OR puppies NOT cats

+ (plus), - (minus) Operators

The plus operator indicates that a keyword is required in the search results, while the minus operator excludes it.

Example: To search for documents containing apple and pie but requiring the word crust, use this query:

+apple +pie +crust

To search for documents containing apple but excluding pie, use this query:

+apple -pie

Boosting query

You can use the caret (^) symbol to boost the importance of certain keywords in your search results.

For example: to search for all documents that contain the word apple, but give higher relevance to documents that also contain the word pie, you would use the following query:

apple^2 pie

In this example, the ^2 tells the search engine to give documents that contain pie twice as much relevance as documents that only contain apple.

Fuzzy

You can use the tilde (~) symbol to perform a fuzzy search, which will match documents that are like the search term, but not necessarily an exact match.

For example: to search for all documents that contain the word apple with a spelling mistake, you would use the following query:

appl~

By using the advanced search functionalities and operators described in this documentation, you can create powerful search queries that allow you to find the exact information you need from your data.
